If you have been in Estonia for more than a week, you have probably heard someone mention Fienta. It is the go-to platform for local events here, from community meetups and networking nights to cultural evenings and concerts.

I use Fienta from both sides. As someone living in Tallinn for over five years, I use it to find local events and connect with the community. And as the founder of Kafeo, I use it to list and manage my own events.

In this post, I will cover both how to use Fienta as an attendee to find the best free and paid events in Estonia and how to use it as an organizer, including the honest things nobody tells you before your first event goes live.

Quick Summary

  • Fienta is Estonia’s leading local events platform, used by locals, expats, and organizers
  • Free events cost nothing to list and nothing to attend
  • Paid events: 3.5% commission, including all payment fees, minimum โ‚ฌ0.40 per order
  • Out of 10 attendees at my Kafeo events, 4 came purely through Fienta, not my social media

Finding Events in Estonia as an Attendee

Estonia has a lively local events scene that most newcomers completely miss because they do not know where to look.

Instagram and Facebook show you what your existing network is doing. Fienta shows you what is actually happening in the city.

What Kind of Events Will You Find

Fienta covers a wide range of events across Estonia, with most events concentrated in Tallinn and Tartu. From my experience browsing and attending:

  • Community meetups and networking: the most active category, especially for expats and internationals
  • Cultural and arts events: exhibitions, film screenings, local performances
  • Music and concerts: independent and local acts that do not always appear on mainstream platforms
  • Markets and pop-ups: seasonal and themed markets, food events
  • Workshops and learning events: language exchange, skills workshops, professional development

How to Find Events: Free vs Paid

The Fienta interface is straightforward. You search by city or category and filter by date. Free events are clearly marked; no payment is required, just RSVP in some cases.

For paid events, you pay directly through Fienta at checkout. Payment is handled through their system, so you never need to send a bank transfer or deal with separate payment links.

For attendees, there are no extra fees on top of the ticket price; the organizer covers the platform cost.

As an attendee, here is what I look for

  •  Filter by ‘This week’ first: good for spontaneous plans
  • Check the organizer profile: active organizers usually run quality events
  • Free events are genuinely free: no hidden fees for attendees
  • Paid events process payment instantly, and the ticket arrives by email

Listing Your Events on Fienta as an Organizer

I run Kafeo, an operating system for independent cafรฉs in Estonia. Kafeo brings together cafรฉ lovers and local cafรฉ owners, and our community events are where that connection happens in person. If you want to understand why cafรฉ culture runs so deep in Tallinn, I wrote about it here.

My past Kafeo events are listed on Fienta: Vibe Coders Hackathon, Candle Making Workshop, and Beachside Hangout. Real events, real ticket sales, all managed through one dashboard.

To promote these events, I list them across multiple platforms: Eventbrite, Meetup, Facebook Events, TikTok, Instagram, Threads and Fienta.

After running events consistently across all of them, Fienta outperforms every other platform for reaching locals in Estonia.

Here is my honest breakdown.

Comparison: Fienta vs Other Platforms

PlatformCost to OrganizerEvent LimitOrganic DiscoveryAudience in Estonia
FientaFree events: free to list. Paid events: 3.5% incl. all feesUnlimitedStrong, best for localsEstonian locals + some expats
EventbriteHigher fees, complex pricingUnlimitedWeak in EstoniaAlmost no organic reach here
MeetupPaid plan required after 2 events2 events on the free planModerateGood for expats specifically
Facebook EventsFreeUnlimitedDepends on your page followingYour existing network only
Instagram/TikTokFreeUnlimitedAlgorithm dependentYour followers only

The key insight from that table: Fienta is the only platform where people who have never heard of you before can discover and attend your event.

Facebook Events and social media reach your existing audience. Meetup reaches expats. Fienta reaches locals.

My real numbers from Kafeo events

  • Out of every 10 attendees, 4 came purely through Fienta, not my social media
  • Meetup brings expats but limits you to 2 events on the free plan
  • Eventbrite is effectively useless for events in Estonia, with almost no local traffic
  • Fienta brings a genuine mix of Estonian locals and expats

How to Set Up Your First Event on Fienta

The setup process is simple and takes less than 10 minutes for a basic event. You add your event name, description, date, location, and set whether it is free or paid.

For paid events, you set the ticket price, and Fienta handles all payment processing.

The interface is in English and Estonian; you can switch between them. For most organizers coming from outside Estonia, the English version is perfectly sufficient.

The one thing nobody told me before my first event

  • Fienta does not automatically notify you by email when someone buys a ticket.
  • You have to manually enable email notifications inside each event.
  • This makes sense for large events where you do not want 200 separate emails, but for a first-time organizer, it is not obvious at all.
  • I found out 2 people had already bought tickets and arrived at my partner cafรฉ before I even knew anyone had signed up.
  • Lesson: go into your event settings immediately after publishing and turn on per-ticket email notifications.

Free Events vs Paid Events

Which should you choose, paid or free events? This depends entirely on your goal for the event.

  • Free events are best for building community, attracting first-time attendees, and testing a new format. No risk for the attendee means higher sign-up rates.
  • Paid events are better for gauging real commitment. Someone who pays โ‚ฌ10 is far more likely to actually show up than someone who RSVP’d for free.
  • The Fienta model for paid events is 3.5% commission, including all bank and payment processing fees. Minimum โ‚ฌ0.40 per order. For a โ‚ฌ10 ticket, that is โ‚ฌ0.35 to Fienta and โ‚ฌ9.65 to you. Transparent and predictable.

For my Kafeo events, I have used both. Free events filled the room faster.

Paid events had a higher attendance rate relative to sign-ups. Both work; it depends on what you are optimising for.

Setting up Payments Manually is Hectic

Before Fienta, I thought about handling paid tickets manually, collecting bank transfers, tracking who paid, and sending confirmation emails. The reality is that this system breaks down fast even with 10 attendees.

Fienta removes that entire problem. Someone buys a ticket, they get a confirmation, you get notified (once you enable it), and the money arrives cleanly. No chasing payments, no spreadsheets, no confusion at the door.

For any organizer running more than occasional free events, this alone makes Fienta worth using.

Should You Use Fienta? My Honest Take After 5 Years

Fienta is not perfect. The notification setting caught me out. The platform is smaller than Eventbrite globally. And if your audience is entirely outside Estonia, you will get more reach from international platforms.

But for anyone running events in Estonia, especially in Tallinn, Fienta is the strongest platform available for reaching local people who are genuinely interested in what you are doing. No other platform gives you that organic discovery from Estonian locals.

As an attendee, it is the best single place to see what is actually happening in the city that week, beyond what your social bubble already knows about.

Use Fienta if you are…

  • An attendee looking for local events in Tallinn or Tartu beyond tourist recommendations
  • An organizer who wants to reach Estonian locals, not just your existing followers
  • Running paid events and want a clean payment system without manual bank transfers
  • Listing multiple events, no limits on free or paid listings, unlike Meetup
